The commemorative activities took place at the Bolivarian Army’s General Command, with the presence of high-ranking officials from the Executive Cabinet, the High Command of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB), and other authorities.

The Battle of Carabobo was fought on June 24, 1821, between the royalist army under Field Marshal Miguel de La Torre and General-in-Chief Simon Bolivar, whose victory proved decisive for the liberation of Caracas and the rest of Venezuela.

The triumph at Carabobo decimated Spanish imperial power, thwarting its subsequent attempts to regain control through the so-called “Western Campaign,” which was ultimately repulsed by generals such as Jose Antonio Paez, Carlos Soublette, and Mariano Montilla in the Naval Battle of Lake Maracaibo and the Siege of Puerto Cabello.

The text reads, “Today we commemorate the 205th anniversary of the Battle of Carabobo, the decisive battle for Venezuelan independence. It was the strategic turning point that dismantled the royalist forces and politically validated the existence of Gran Colombia, projecting freedom to the rest of the continent.”

In the morning at the National Pantheon, the FANB reaffirmed its strategic commitment to defending Venezuelan territory. Authorities led the traditional raising of the National Flag and placed a floral offering before the sarcophagus of Liberator Simon Bolivar.

The ceremony was attended by ministers Juan Ramirez (Public Works), Raul Cazal (Culture), Julio Garcia (Penitentiary Service), Franklin Cardillo (Sports), and Gabriela Jimenez (Science and Technology).

During the tribute, cadets from the Bolivarian Military University of Venezuela unfurled the national tricolor as a symbol of self-determination, recalling the victory of 6,500 patriotic soldiers.

“That sacred fire that burned on the field of Carabobo is still alive. It runs through the veins of the men and women who today, with high morale, unwavering loyalty and rifles at the ready, defend the sovereignty, peace and integrity of our sacred Venezuelan soil,” the Defense Ministry stated.
