63 minors reside in Chilean territory, and one teenager is in Mexico. State institutions verified that all the children and teenagers are in good physical condition.

The investigation stemmed from a report by the Comptroller General’s Office, which alerted authorities that, between January and October 2025, more than 200 Haitian children entered the country, of whom 64 were unaccounted for.

This situation prompted a criminal complaint for alleged repeated human trafficking. The media attention included speculation about organized crime and organ trafficking, scenarios that were ruled out by police authorities. In this context, a special unit was created to launch an investigation to locate the minors who entered the country. Airlines, travel agencies, and lawyers were implicated in the process, allegedly forming a child trafficking network between Haiti and Chile.

The text reads, “Michel-Ange Joseph, Haitian activist: “There is no one who can pass through the airport without being registered. The government is politicizing the Haitian community. We are orphaned, without a president in Haiti and therefore defenseless against these attacks; it is cowardice.”

However, Cerna clarified that the minors entered under family reunification visas and that the 63 currently in Chile have their immigration status regularized. “There is no evidence of trafficking or exploitation, nothing,” the police director stated, concluding the verification process for this list.

For her part, the Minister of Social Development, María Jesús Wulf, led the announcement alongside the PDI (Chilean Investigative Police), praising the coordinated work between state institutions. Wulf emphasized that the minors are integrated into the educational system and have access to healthcare.

“We are not talking about files or statistics, but about children and adolescents,” the minister stated, adding that “when there is evidence that compels the State to verify their situation, our responsibility is to act swiftly, with a sense of urgency, and with the utmost seriousness.”

Social and non-governmental organizations based in Santiago de Chile, praised this joint effort, which clarified the whereabouts of each minor, guaranteeing their comprehensive protection and dismissing the possibility of child trafficking networks that initially attempted to sow panic in Chilean society.
