On Thursday, Venezuela proposed Qatar as the guest of honor at the 19th International Tourism Fair (Fitven) in 2026, with the aim of consolidating economic and tourism ties between the two nations. The announcement was made by the Minister of Popular Power for Tourism, Daniella Cabello, after meeting with the Qatari ambassador in Caracas, Salman Nabit Mubarak Abdullah Al-Khulaifi.

During the meeting, which was also attended by Vice Ministers Nadia Mignogna and Marcos Medina, the Venezuelan official described Fitven as one of the region’s main showcases for tourism and trade promotion.
“It is a space where Venezuela shows the world its diversity, its destinations, its culture, and its enormous potential for economic development through tourism,” Mignogna emphasized.
To formalize the proposal, Cabello requested a virtual meeting be arranged with the President of Qatar Tourism, Saad Bin Ali Al Kharji.
The meeting aimed to further strengthen tourism cooperation, investment opportunities, and connectivity between the two countries. This bilateral rapprochement coincides with the start of Qatar Airways’ operations on the Doha-Bogotá-Caracas-Doha route, scheduled for July 22.

This connection will position the airline as the first in the Persian Gulf to fly directly to the Venezuelan capital. In this regard, Minister Cabello noted that the new route shortens distances, boosts tourism, and facilitates cultural and commercial exchange. It opens the door to investment and mutual understanding.
The working agenda seeks to promote the signing of a cooperation agreement in tourism that will solidify a strategic alliance within the framework of the event.
Qatar, like Venezuela, integrates its history and traditions with a cutting-edge tourism model. This step aligns with the Venezuela Hub strategy, aimed at attracting travelers from Asia and the Middle East, taking advantage of Doha’s designation as the Gulf Cooperation Council’s Tourism Capital for 2026.
