Progressive presidential candidate Iván Cepeda addressed supporters on Sunday regarding the quick election count, just hours after the polls closed in Colombia, saying they were "not yet official or binding.” The quick count indicates a difference of 250,820 votes between Cepeda and his opponent, far-right, Trump-backed Abelardo de la Espriella. Cepeda’s Historic Pact Political Movement has called on lawyers to mobilize to vote counting stations across the country to verify the results and make sure each vote is counted. Throughout the day numerous denunciations were lodged of vote buying and other irregularities. Meanwhile, de la Espriella has publicly claimed victory and received messages of congratulations from US President Donald Trump, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and several right-wing legislators from Florida.
