Switzerland defeated Bosnia-Herzegovina 4-1 this Thursday in Los Angeles during a Group B match of the World Cup 2026, driven by decisive late goals from Johan Manzambi and Ruben Vargas.

The highly anticipated match at the stadium in Los Angeles offered a quiet first half before exploding into a dynamic spectacle. Switzerland established absolute dominance of the ball from the opening whistle, restricting Bosnia-Herzegovina to defensive duties in their own half.

Despite controlling the tempo, the Swiss national team failed to score during the first 45 minutes of play. A powerful shot against the post and an athletic save from Bosnian goalkeeper Nikola Vasilj preserved the scoreless draw before halftime.

The second half began with a similar narrative as the Swiss squad continued to pressure the Balkan defense. Swiss goalkeeper Gregor Kobel remained largely untested, as Bosnia-Herzegovina struggled to retrieve possession or organize structured counterattacks to threaten the Swiss goal.

The defining moment of the game arrived during the second mandatory hydration break in the second half. Swiss tactical manager Murat Yakin decided to make a double substitution, sending Johan Manzambi and Ruben Vargas onto the pitch in the 71st minute.

The tactical adjustment produced immediate results just three minutes later to open the scoring. Ruben Vargas delivered a dangerous cross into the penalty area, forcing a weak clearance from the Bosnian defense that fell directly to Johan Manzambi.

The young forward executed a precise volley that bypassed the goalkeeper to establish the 1-0 lead. This opening goal initiated an extraordinary sequence of five goals scored during the final 22 minutes of the international fixture.

Late Drama Seals victory

Switzerland extended its advantage in the 84th minute through a brilliant team combination. Johan Manzambi recovered the ball on the right wing, passing it to Breel Embolo, who quickly assisted **Rubén Vargas for a clinical finish.

The substitute duo struck again in the 89th minute to stretch the lead to 3-0. Ruben Vargas exploited a defensive gap on the left wing and delivered a low cross to Johan Manzambi, who tapped it in.

Bosnia-Herzegovina managed to discount the deficit in the 92nd minute of play. Defender Ermin Mahmic scored a spectacular volley to make the scoreline 3-1, briefly reviving the hopes of the Balkan fans in the stadium.

Any hope of a Bosnian comeback vanished when defender Amar Memic fouled Swiss midfielder Djibril Sow inside the penalty box. Swiss team captain Granit Xhaka converted the penalty kick in the 96th minute to seal the 4-1 triumph.

With this definitive result, Switzerland accumulates four points in Group B, positioning the team favorably to qualify for the round of 32. The Swiss squad will conclude the group phase against Canada in their next scheduled match.

In contrast, Bosnia-Herzegovina remains at the bottom of the group standings with only one point. The Bosnian national team must win its upcoming final match against Qatar to keep its qualification hopes alive.
