On Tuesday, hundreds marched through downtown Senatobia, Mississippi, in protest of the police murder of 1-year-old Kohen Wiley two days prior. Police responded to the protest, which stopped in front of the local Walmart and continued to grow in size, by teargassing the protesters. On Sunday afternoon, police officers shot and killed 1-year-old Kohen in a car outside of the Walmart.

A few important things to remember about this situation:

    1. The only reason the police were there was for a shoplifting call. Supposedly for diapers.

    2. They did not talk to anyone from the store before interacting with the women outside, as they were leaving. So how did they know it was these women specifically?

    3. They saw the women leave the store, with the baby and diapers. So they 100% knew there was a baby present.

    4. Officers claim they were almost ran over. As we’ve seen elsewhere this is THE most common false claim police use to justify actions after the fact. The video publicly available so far, and public witness accounts, which are limited, don’t seem to corroborate this.

    5. They fired at a moving car in a crowded Walmart parking lot. Endangering literally everyone else in front of the store. Over some supposedly stolen diapers.

    6. Police apparently weren’t able to get into their cars to follow/chase for some reason that hasn’t been explained? Even though literally everyone involved in the “crime” was in that one vehicle. The driver literally drove straight to the hospital.

    7. No one has been charged with anything. Not even the shoplifting they originally claim this was about. Since when have the police delayed charging because they shot someone? Especially if the person in question wasn’t injured, like the mother here. Is it because they didn’t actually shoplift?

The incompetence and complete lack of judgement by the officers involved at every interaction point is staggering here. It’s bad even by average police standards.

If a mob of angry citizens armed with rifles hunted down every cop in that city, I wouldn’t care, because they surely brought it on themselves.
