Colombia’s President denounced this Wednesday an international far-right disinformation strategy designed to destabilize his Government and manipulate upcoming democratic elections in the country.
During an official council of ministers on June 17, Gustavo Petro revealed details of a coordinated foreign network aiming to erode his administration’s reputation.
The National Financial Information and Analysis Agency (UIAF, in Spanish) confirmed the existence of the “Operation Ajax“, alongside two other parallel covert campaigns designed to damage the public image of Gustavo Petro and senior Government officials.

Far-Right Alliance Exposed
President Gustavo Petro attributed this smear campaign to an active “international far-right alliance” consisting of prominent global political figures.
The Colombian head of State specifically identified Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Argentinean President Javier Milei and former Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernández as key actors backing these coordinated maneuvers. Juan Orlando Hernández, who was pardoned by Donald Trump while serving a federal prison sentence in the United States for drug trafficking, reportedly acknowledged the existence of these operations in recorded intelligence.
Petro stated that there is clear recorded evidence proving a systematic plan designed to dismantle progressive administrations in both Mexico and Colombia. In this sense, President Petro criticized the local Attorney General’s Office for its failure to initiate a formal investigation into this foreign interference. He emphasized that external financing is actively flowing into Colombia to bankroll these continuous smear campaigns.
The Colombian President added that public funds and political actors from Israel and Argentina work together to execute digital warfare against the sovereignty of South American democracies.

Funding and Global Reach
Further investigations show that the “Operation Ajax” is financed through an active investment fund located in Miami, United States. This financial hub receives capital from international businessmen of various nationalities. The primary purpose of this specific fund is to finance dirty propaganda aimed at mass-producing content to destroy the credibility of the progressive Colombian administration.
The execution of the “Operation Ajax” began in 2024, after being designed in 2023. This intelligence network spans across five nations, including the United States, Colombia, Panama, Spain and Italy. The operations, as Petro denounced, are technically linked to a digital platform identified as Petrolix, which serves as a vehicle for the systematic spread of false narratives.
