UNISON delegates have warned that abuse and assaults are becoming an accepted part of the job, particularly in schools and the early years sector.

The union’s local government conference held in Brighton backed a motion to tackle violence at work on Sunday.

Powerful testimonies about the impact of physical assaults, verbal abuse and threats on front-line staff were shared.

“Violence at work is not part of the job that any of us should accept,” one speaker said.
