Oaxaca, Oax. The municipal president of San Miguel Amatitlán, Joel Ángel Bravo Martínez, was murdered this Saturday, the State Attorney General’s Office of Oaxaca (FGEO) reported.

According to Security sources, the mayor —who took office under the banner of the coalition made up of PAN, PRI, and PRD— suffered an armed attack as he was leaving his home.

The FGEO issued a communique in which it confirmed the mayor’s homicide; it added that investigations have begun and that, in response to this incident, the presence of security forces in the area was “hardened.”

However, it omitted information regarding the way in which the armed attack against Bravo Martínez was carried out in that municipality of the Mixteca region.

This is the second attack perpetrated in three days against a municipal president; this past Thursday the mayor of Miahuatlán de Porfirio Díaz, César Figueroa, suffered an attack in which he received a gunshot in his left arm, according to the prosecutor’s office.

In this case, information was also omitted regarding the location and other details of what happened.
