Mass protests were seen in Keralam Thursday against the Union government’s fuel price hikes, led by the Communist Party of India (Marxist). A CPI(M) protestor talked to BT and slammed Trump and Netanyahu for starting the war on Iran which has led to the fuel crisis. The protests were organized in front of Union government offices and other locations across Keralam. CPI(M) Keralam stated on X: “Fuel prices in the country have been rising steeply. Between May 15 and May 25 alone, petrol and diesel prices were increased four times in just eleven days, resulting in a cumulative hike of ₹7.50 per litre. When international crude oil prices fell, the Union government sharply raised fuel taxes to ensure that the benefit did not reach the people. It adopted the cruel position that reductions in global oil prices should not translate into relief for ordinary citizens. Now, using the increase in crude oil prices as a pretext, the Modi government is once again attempting to impose additional burdens on the public.“
