Every day, President Claudia Sheinbaum gives a morning presidential press conference and Mexico Solidarity Media posts English language summaries, translated by Mexico Solidarity’s Pedro Gellert. Previous press conference summaries are available here.
Healthcare System Transformation Moves ForwardPresident Claudia Sheinbaum reported that 29 new hospitals have been opened during her administration, in addition to healthcare centers and medical facilities that had been abandoned since the neoliberal era.
She noted that “the goal is for all Mexicans to have a digital medical record.” As part of this effort, IMSS-Bienestar has invested more than 13 billion pesos (US$750 million) in medical equipment, while the rest of the healthcare sector is promoting digital consultations, new CT scanners, robotic surgery, and Blue Rooms for the early detection of breast cancer.
Pemex Strengthens Its Exploration CapacityMexico announced that Pemex will sign a collaboration agreement with Petrobras to leverage its expertise in deep water exploration and advanced technologies to identify new reserves. The President noted that this alliance will help strengthen national exploration and production.
Sheinbaum Defends National Sovereignty in Response to U.S. Ambassador’s StatementsThe President reiterated that Mexico remains willing to collaborate with the United States on shared issues such as security. However, she responded to Ambassador Ronald Johnson’s statements by reminding him that cooperation must occur with full respect for national sovereignty and non-intervention. “Ambassadors must respect the internal political questions of countries” where they are stationed, she stated, making it clear that “Mexico’s matters are the responsibility of Mexicans.”
Sheinbaum Calls for Defending the Transformation and SovereigntyThe President reiterated the invitation to participate in informational assemblies on the Transformation and the defense of national sovereignty, noting that “it is up to us to understand what we are experiencing.” Sheinbaum also highlighted the importance of maintaining a relationship of respect with the United States. We should “have a good relationship with the United States, but always demand respect for our sovereignty,” she explained.
Sheinbaum recalls the PAN’s legacy and defends social programsFollowing Vicente Fox’s reappearance in defense of Chihuahua Governor Maru Campos, the President questioned why the opposition continues to turn to figures linked to episodes of corruption and privilege. As part of her response, Sheinbaum presented a video in which the former PAN president criticized social programs, contrasting that view with the well-being model promoted by the Fourth Transformation and supported by millions of Mexicans.

The Left That Learned to Distribute, But Not Produce
June 2, 2026June 2, 2026
Mexico faces a historical contradiction: it has a government that speaks as if it has broken with neoliberalism, yet it retains too many of the economic structures that neoliberalism left untouched. It has rhetoric of sovereignty, but financial dependence.
