While the media reports on a “ceasefire,” the reality on the ground in Lebanon tells a drastically different story. Despite the April 17 U.S.-brokered agreement, Israel has aggressively intensified its military campaign, issuing mass displacement orders covering 14% of the country, threatening over 300 villages, and killing over 1,000 Lebanese people since the truce supposedly took effect. Hussein Assaf, a Lebanon-based journalist with Vpol, joins Rania Khalek and Zoe Alexandra to discuss how Israel “was not able to advance in southern Lebanon” during the war itself, explaining that “all their advancement and all the demolitions” came only after the U.S.-brokered ceasefire took effect. He explains how the U.S. and Israel are exploiting this “ceasefire” to alter Lebanon’s borders permanently, weaken the resistance, and deliberately push the country toward civil war. #breakthroughnews
