Some opinions:
On X
Football ceased to be a competition and became a mere business with benefits only for the companies.
@AcostaAbrahampz /Atlixco
Unfortunately, economic power has hijacked the World Cup; it’s elitist, it leaves the poor out, it wants us to watch it in the media to bombard us with advertising, I’d rather not watch it.
@LissOrgaz /Tecamac
The ticket prices are outrageous. The World Cup has become a spectacle for millionaires, not for the people.
@LaSandyse /Zapopan
Even with a year’s salary I couldn’t buy tickets for my three children and me. We’ll watch it on a streaming platform.
@K.Krisostomo /Hermosillo
On Facebook
It’s been over a decade since I stopped watching football; it’s a manipulative lie. Money became the priority, leaving aside competition and sport.
Enrique Cruz / Metepec
Pay for a ticket or put down a deposit on a property? I’d rather look after my future and watch the games on TV.
Raquel Méndez / Guadalajara
FIFA is a global power of dubious integrity that imposes its rules without paying taxes. Mexico is successful in every sport except soccer. Why? Because its oligarchs prefer a frustrated and disgruntled Mexican society.

As the saying goes: football is the most important of the least important things. A great distraction, a great business for those in power to get even richer. The game has been shamelessly tainted.
Román López /Guanajuato
I wouldn’t go see the Mexican national team play. I don’t identify with these players. And I wouldn’t spend that much money on it. I prefer to watch the ones that seem like they’ll play well on TV.
Martín Belmont /Morelia
On Instagram
Yes, I like football, but Infantino’s actions and his audacity in joining forces with the far right make me not want to watch it by any means. It’s a farce and a money-making scheme like never before.
Georgina Calderón Aragón / Mexico City
I’m not interested in the World Cup; I haven’t followed it for many years. I consider it a waste of time and, conversely, a huge source of money for the football cartel: FIFA. They spread it around to television networks, streaming platforms, sales of all kinds of merchandise, and so on. It’s a good distraction, ultimately.
Javier Mireles / Guanajuato
Football has stopped moving the masses, at least in this World Cup, that’s how it seems.
Julio Barriga / Cuernavaca
It’s very expensive to go to a game at the stadium, FIFA and the corrupt FMF are exploiting the business to the fullest.
Roberto Herrera / State of Mexico
On Threads
A seemingly harmless way to alienate, individualize, and commodify the masses.
Luis Martín Ángeles / Mexico City
FIFA is a criminal cartel. From Havelange, then Blatter, and now this mafia-like Infantino. Football is the opiate of the masses. And rulers who believe them. How much will this little joke of being a sub-venue cost us?
Francisco Javier Contreras Díaz / Zacatecas
I’m not a football fan, but I’m glad the event has led to improvements in services and that activities have been scheduled for people to practice it, as well as other cultural events.
Maía González /Cuernavaca
I’m worried about how the game for everyone has become the game of the elite among the elite.
Horacio de la Cueva / Ensenada
