Every day, President Claudia Sheinbaum gives a morning presidential press conference and Mexico Solidarity Media posts English language summaries, translated by Mexico Solidarity’s Pedro Gellert. Previous press conference summaries are available here.
Education: The Best Investment You Can Make: Claudia SheinbaumMexico projects ending 2026 with 22.8 million students receiving scholarships/stipends and a record investment of 178.2 billion pesos (US$10.30 billion), strengthening the right to education. At the same time, the Rita Cetina scholarship/subsidy benefits 15.4 million students, while millions receive support through the Benito Juárez and Jóvenes Escribiendo el Futuro (Youth Writing the Future) programs.
The 4T proposes shielding elections from organized crimePresident Claudia Sheinbaum will submit a reform bill to prevent individuals linked to organized crime from running as candidates in 2027. The bill creates a commission within the National Electoral Institute (INE) that will review candidate profiles with support from the Financial Investigation Unit (UIF), the Federal Attorney General’s Office (FGR), and other institutions.
“The goal is to prevent public officials from having ties to organized crime and to strengthen the INE’s functions,” Sheinbaum stated, emphasizing that it will ultimately be up to the political parties to decide whether or not to nominate a person under suspicion.
Sheinbaum Defends Remittances and Acknowledges Migrants’ ContributionThe Ministry of Finance is analyzing Donald Trump’s executive order on remittances, while Claudia Sheinbaum noted that irregular migration of Mexicans to the United States fell by 97.5%. The President noted that 38 million Mexicans live in the United States and are essential to its economy. “Without this population, the United States would not be what it is,” Sheinbaum stated.
“For the good of all, the poor come first”: Sheinbaum exposes the PAN’s hypocrisyPresident Sheinbaum presented videos and audio clips of leading PAN figures such as Marko Cortés and Vicente Fox criticizing social programs, which they described as “clientelist” or aimed at “slackers.”
The President contrasted those speeches with the results of the 4T: the fight against corruption, an increase in the minimum wage, and social programs that, together, have lifted 13.5 million Mexicans out of poverty.
“Hypocrisy,” Sheinbaum declared, questioning why the opposition now wants to appropriate the discourse of social wellbeing after having attacked for years the support for the people promoted by the government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
The 4T Strengthens Agriculture and Food SovereigntyThe President highlighted the agreement to regulate white corn production, guarantee fair prices, and prioritize domestic purchases, thereby strengthening food self-sufficiency. The goal is to “strengthen food sovereignty and support producers,” by providing millions of peasant farmers with free fertilizers, native seeds, and direct support for Mexican agriculture.
