Finance, energy, and central banks will be the areas of discussion, the minister told RTL, adding that the meeting’s objective is “to understand what is happening.”

The global scenario is one of uncertainty and concern regarding the economic impact of the ongoing conflict, which began on February 28 with the US and Israeli aggression against Iran.

In response, Iran has launched attacks on US interests in the region and continues the selective closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a key waterway for oil shipments.

The rise in crude oil prices, above $100 a barrel, is a major concern due to its consequences for sectors beyond energy, including food.

Lescure insisted that France is not experiencing an “oil shock,” clarifying his comments this week before the National Assembly’s Finance Committee, in which he warned of the damage that would result from the spread of the war and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

He also asserted that the government will adopt measures to help lessen the crisis stemming from the conflict in the Middle East, without ruling out limiting trade margins if necessary.
