In statements to the media, the head of Holy See diplomacy stated that Easter, which will take place on March 5, Resurrection Sunday, “is the feast of peace, and therefore a special occasion to renew this invitation and put an end to the senselessness of war.”
The cardinal expressed his hope that amidst the conflict affecting the Middle East, following the war unleashed by the United States and Israel against Iran, “at least within holy places like the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the rites can be celebrated.” Parolin spoke with journalists at a study day dedicated to the statesman Alcide De Gasperi, the Christian Democratic politician who served as Prime Minister of Italy from 1945 to 1956, after the end of World War II. The event is being held today at the Vatican Apostolic Library, where he worked during the war.
The Secretary of State expressed his deep concern about the current armed conflicts, which are contributing to a marked insecurity at the site of the holiest shrine for Christians, located in the Holy Land, which is already subject to severe limitations and restrictions due to the war.
On March 4, the high-ranking Vatican official warned of the danger to humanity posed by so-called preventive wars, just days before the start, on February 28, of the US and Israeli aggression against Iran.
