Is the Labour party even worth saving? If it is, the first thing that would need to happen is a massive independent audit, followed by numerous expulsions, says journalist Paul Holden. He tells Novara Live’s Aaron Bastani that the investigation should focus on the role of the rightwing think tank Labour Together, which led a smear campaign against Holden and other journalists. Auditors should also look into “the historic shenanigans that have happened in the Labour party, and you need to just absolutely clear house,” he says. “I do honestly think that if you were to do an outside external forensic audit of Labour party finances, quite a few people would have to leave the party as a result,” he adds. As well as an audit, there needs to be a "radical democratic transformation” at the party’s grassroots to make sure MPs are invested in their communities and not career politicians, he adds.
