More than 65 days after their arrest by the Jordanian authorities, cadres of the Jordanian Communist Party remain under detention in a clear case of political persecution and anti-communist repression.
Among those detained are Political Bureau members Dr. Omar Awad and Osama Zain al-Din, along with student activist Bahaa Hisham Ahmad. The Jordanian Communist Party has repeatedly denounced the arrests as arbitrary, unlawful and politically motivated, stressing that the comrades were detained without any legal justification.
The party underlines that the repression is directly linked to its firm positions against imperialist war, foreign intervention and attacks on democratic freedoms in Jordan and the wider region. In statements published by the party’s newspaper Al Jamaheer, communists denounced the arrests as an attempt to silence militant political activity and intimidate all forces resisting reactionary policies.
International solidarity with the detained comrades continues to grow. Communist and workers’ parties from across the world, including the Communist Party of Greece (KKE), the Communist Party USA and the Communist Party of Britain, have condemned the crackdown and demanded the immediate release of the detainees.
The ongoing detention of Jordanian communists once again exposes the intensifying repression faced by anti-imperialist and progressive forces in the Middle East under conditions of escalating imperialist interventions and regional instability.
Freedom for the communists of Jordan! Hands off the Jordanian Communist Party!
