“Lyle was fighting to tell the stories of regular farmers and the majority of Filipino people who suffer daily." On April 19, the Philippine Armed Forces killed 19 people and displaced 168 families in Negros Occidental, Philippines, in an operation that can only be described as a massacre. Among the dead were two U.S. citizens: Kai Sorem and Lyle Prijoles. Prijoles’s family and friends gathered on May 8 in San Francisco to mourn his passing and celebrate his commitment to fighting for Filipino people. Groups such as Malaya Movement and Bayan have been organizing community vigils to demand justice for for the Negros 19. They are calling for an end to U.S. funding, support, and cooperation with the Philippine Armed Forces.
