Reacting to the Greens’ Zoë Garbett’s historic mayoralty win in Hackney, east London, leader Zack Polanski called the two-party hold on British politics “dead and buried”. “It’s very clear that the new politics is the Green party versus Reform,” Polanski said.  Counting is still underway in the local and devolved parliamentary elections, but at the time of posting, the Greens have gained more than 170 council seats in England and won their first mayoralty.
