‘Save your tears for another day.’ Labour supporters attending vote counts after polls close this evening are being told not to cry in front of cameras or talk to reporters if their candidates lose, according to Channel 4 journalist Gary Gibbon. Polling suggests the party is set to suffer heavy losses across the country in today’s elections, with Reform and the Greens poised for gains. In Scotland, YouGov polling predicts the party will have its worst Holyrood election to date, falling to 17 seats, while the Scottish National Party is on course for 62 seats – just short of a majority.  The pollster predicts a similar defeat for Keir Starmer’s party in Wales, which has been a Labour stronghold for over a century. The party is on course to win just 12 of 96 Senedd seats, while Plaid Cymru is set to become the largest party with 43 seats, short of an overall majority.
