Because Keir Starmer’s Labour has performed terribly in government, the public have turned against it. As a result, voters are now considering other parties in the local elections. This situation gave Labour two choices: the party could offer the public a better deal, or they could smear their opponents in the vilest fashion possible.
It’s clear which option Labour politicians have chosen:
??? She was a victim. She was used as a drug mule and helped put the man who exploited her in prison. She now runs a charity where she has helped hundreds of people in similar situations turn their lives around.
Labour is so repulsive. I can’t put into words bow much I hate them https://t.co/AH6G2yRSlQ

And the beloved charity leader in question has now responded.
Labour is sick
If Labour has seen sense and deleted the post by the time you read this, here’s what its London branch posted:

Labour is correct that Carlotta Allum served time for smuggling drugs. What they leave out is that since she served time, she’s established a charity which offers the rehabilitative support that the British state fails to provide. And this is very important, isn’t it, because if we don’t rehabilitate people, they will continue to hurt themselves and others – ‘others’ which may include yourself or your loved ones.
Allum gives a moving account of her life here. In one section, she explains:
My prison sentence has affected me deeply and inspired a lifelong interest in the welfare of prisoners. I can not believe I was that stupid looking back, I was so naive. I learned how important support is from your family and loved ones and having a life to come out to, I was so lucky, but there were girls in their with no one and nothing. Having a serious offence on my record has caused a lot of problems in my chosen career, I do not think drug offences should be classed the same as violent or sexual offences, I trained to be a teacher then found it very hard to get work, no one knew what to do with me.
Later, she says:
Today. I run a charity called STRETCH that facilitates arts projects for marginalised groups and the offending community. It is my passion and I am driven in my work, I love working with prisoners the most. Just as ex addicts are the best people to work with addicts I think there should be more peer mentors for prisoners.
Response
In response to Labour’s smear, Allum has responded with the sort of humanity and good humour which is alien to Starmer and his goons:

Others were less forgiving than Allum, including Zeteo’s editor-in-chief Mehdi Hasan:
She was a drug mule nearly 30 years ago, helped put the dealer behind bars, regrets that young life of hers and “now aged, 54, she runs the Stretch charity based in Brixton, south-west London, helping drug addicts, homeless individuals, prisoners and ex-inmates. as well as other vulnerable people.”

Homelessness and prison reform advocate Matthew Torbitt said:
We either believe in a society where people can serve their time, be rehabilitated & contribute meaningfully to society or we don’t.
I don’t care what party is doing it or what party it is against, this is horrible and desperate considering what she has done since 30 years on.
Greens deputy Mothin Ali asked the following:
Who the hell is running Labour’s social media account? https://t.co/1B1ynmnHYj

Allum isn’t the only Green candidate that London Labour has ‘exposed’ either:
The allegations “exposed” here, include:
– A woman who (according to The Times) was “groomed” as a drugs mule almost 30 years ago, and whose testimony helped get a major drugs dealer locked up.
– A woman who “supports proscribing the IDF as a terrorist organisation”.
– A woman… https://t.co/L508nXiNQC

Smear and loathing
As we said, the reason for these smears is obvious.
Labour has nothing to offer but spite, and the more it doubles down on these attacks, the more obvious that becomes.
Be sure to get out there and vote if you’re reading this on Thursday 7 May (and remember to take your ID with you!).
