Ehab Lotayef is a Canadian IT Manager, poet, writer and community activist, of Egyptian origin
He holds a degree in Electrical Engineering (1981) from Ain-Shams University in Cairo, Egypt. Ehab moved to Canada in 1989, is a father of two and has four grandchildren.
Ehab has been working at McGill University, as an IT manager, since 1999. Before joining McGill, Ehab worked for internationally renowned companies, in Canada and abroad, including Schlumberger, Linotype and Pratt & Whitney.
Ehab is deeply involved in social and community work, including, campaigns against the sanctions and war on Iraq, opposing the blockade of Gaza (organizing and being on board the Freedom Flotilla) and advocating for Native Rights. Over the years he served on the boards of Egyptian Canadian Coalition for Democracy(Pres.), Muslim Council of Montreal, Muslim Schools of Montreal, the Canadian Arab Federation (V.P.), Fair Vote Canada and the Board of Governors of McGill University; and Montreal City Mission. Ehab is also a founder and former chairperson of both”Muslim Awareness Week” (MAW) and the “Non a la loi 21” (#NL21) campaign. Ehab is a founder and coordinator of Kalemat, a freethinkers’ forum aiming to advocate open dialogue especially among Arabic speakers in Canada.
In 2020 Ehab and his family founded the Dr. Fatma Amer Educational Charity in Canada, in the honor of his late mother, which helps women and girl facing financial challenges in Egypt complete their higher education.
As a poet and writer, Ehab published a bilingual poetry collection: “To Love a Palestinian Woman” (TSAR 2010) and the CBC produced his play “Crossing Gibraltar” in 2006. His writings also appeared in many anthologies and zines and he wrote numerous OpEds on various subjects in many Canadian papers over the years. His Arabic poetry collection “Abwab” (Doors) has just been published by Qanadeel in Baghdad, Iraq.
Ehab also served on the boards of Teesri Duniya Theatre, CKUT Radio and the Quebec Writers Federation.

إيهاب لُطيّف هو مدير تكنولوجيا معلومات، وشاعر، وكاتب، وناشط مجتمعي كندي من أصل مصري.
حصل على درجة البكالوريوس في الهندسة الكهربائية (عام 1981) من جامعة عين شمس في القاهرة، مصر. انتقل إيهاب إلى كندا في عام 1989، وهو أب لطفلين وجد لأربعة أحفاد.
يعمل إيهاب في جامعة “ماكجيل” (McGill) كمدير لتكنولوجيا المعلومات منذ عام 1999. وقبل انضمامه إلى مكغيل، عمل في شركات ذات شهرة عالمية في كندا وخارجها، منها “شلمبرجير” (Schlumberger)، و“لينوتايب” (Linotype)، و“برات آند ويتني” (Pratt & Whitney).
ينخرط إيهاب بعمق في العمل الاجتماعي والمجتمعي، بما في ذلك حملات ضد العقوبات والحرب على العراق، ومعارضة حصار غزة (حيث شارك في تنظيم وكان على متن “أسطول الحرية“)، والدفاع عن حقوق السكان الأصليين. وعلى مر السنين، شغل عضوية مجالس إدارة عدة جهات منها: الائتلاف المصري الكندي من أجل الديمقراطية (رئيساً)، والمجلس الإسلامي في مونتريال، والمدارس الإسلامية في مونتريال، والاتحاد العربي الكندي (نائباً للرئيس)، ومنظمة “تصويت عادل – كندا” (Fair Vote Canada)، ومجلس أمناء جامعة مكغيل؛ و“بعثة مدينة مونتريال” (Montreal City Mission). كما يعد إيهاب مؤسساً ورئيساً سابقاً لكل من “أسبوع التوعية الإسلامي” (MAW) وحملة “لا للقانون 21″ (#NL21). وهو أيضاً مؤسس ومنسق “كلمات“، وهو منتدى للمفكرين الأحرار يهدف إلى تعزيز الحوار المفتوح، لا سيما بين المتحدثين باللغة العربية في كندا.
في عام 2020، أسس إيهاب وعائلته “جمعية الدكتورة فاطمة عامر التعليمية الخيرية” FAEC في كندا، تكريماً لروح والدته الراحلة، وهي جمعية تساعد النساء والفتيات اللاتي يواجهن تحديات مالية في مصر على إكمال تعليمهن العالي.
كشاعر وكاتب، نشر إيهاب مجموعة شعرية ثنائية اللغة بعنوان: “أن تحب امرأة فلسطينية” (To Love a Palestinian Woman) عن دار “TSAR” عام 2010، وأنتجت هيئة الإذاعة الكندية (CBC) مسرحيته “عبور جبل طارق” (Crossing Gibraltar) في عام 2006. كما ظهرت كتاباته في العديد من الأنطولوجيات والمجلات، وكتب العديد من مقالات الرأي حول موضوعات متنوعة في صحف كندية كثيرة على مر السنين. وقد صدرت له مؤخراً مجموعة شعرية باللغة العربية بعنوان “أبواب” عن دار “قناديل” في بغداد، العراق.
كما شغل إيهاب عضوية مجالس إدارة مسرح “تيسري دنيا” (Teesri Duniya Theatre)، وإذاعة “CKUT”، واتحاد كتاب كيبيك QWF.
