Just one week before Trump’s visit, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Beijing Wednesday. During the meeting, Wang reaffirmed China’s “principle of peaceful coexistence,” but called out the U.S. and Israel for launching their “illegal war against Iran.” Both sides also reaffirmed Iran’s national sovereignty, with China putting forth a four-point proposal to uphold peace and stability in the region.
