The revolutionary movement along with the broad masses in Eastern Visays condemn in the strongest terms the early morning live firing of a US Tomahawk cruise missile from the civilian airport in Tacloban City, Leyte towards a farming community in Laur, Nueva Ecija, today, May 5. It is a blatant affront to Philippine national sovereignty, puts surrounding civilian communities at great risk, and seeks to foment open imperialist war, which will cause the most destruction to the ordinary masses.

Chief US puppet Ferdinand Marcos Jr and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) are outright traitors for letting the US Armed Forces operate and fire the Typhon missile system on Philippine soil and endanger the Filipino people. They turned a blind eye to whatever damage may be brought upon the civilians near the Tacloban airport, in Laur, and elsewhere in the country had the launch gone awry. They rejoice over the “successful missile launch” instead of being horrified by the destruction that can be caused by such an explosion. Even worse, this warmongering directly affected their livelihood—fisherfolk in Samar and Leyte were banned from fishing off the coastal waters of San Pedro Bay from May 5 to 7 to give way to the launch, worsening their hardships in the midst of an economic crisis.

The US, the Marcos regime and the AFP are further dragging the Philippines into war with China. By firing the missile from the Tacloban airport, the US is turning a civilian facility into a legitimate military target of its enemies, as dictated by international humanitarian law. Ironically, this was the same reasoning the US used when it bombed civilian infrastructure in Iran. Marcos and the AFP are clearly not deterred by the strikes Iran rightfully made towards US military infrastructure hosted by other Middle Eastern countries, in retaliation of the US-Israel bombing of Iran; it is a scenario they willfully dismiss.

US warmongering doesn’t stop with the Tomahawk launch. On Wednesday, the puppet Marcos regime will host a sequence of live-fire events where the US, Japan, the Philippine Air Force and Canada will take turns firing missiles, bombs, and machine guns off the coast of Laoag, Ilocos Norte, directly facing the South China Sea and China. Only spinmeisters in the AFP and USAF believe the nonsense that this is not meant to provoke China.

We, along with the Filipino people, reject imperialist war, especially one where ordinary civilians would only be made cannon fodder, and would rather choose the path of diplomacy and peaceful resolution. Revolutionary forces in Eastern Visayas are more than ready to wage revolutionary war to drive out the imperialist aggressors and their local puppets, and establish a people’s democratic government free from foreign intervention.
