IOF

On 30 April, during one of their regular raids on Shuafat Refugee Camp, North East of Jerusalem, Israeli occupation forces (IOF) assaulted Mehdi Al Arabi, a child with Down’s Syndrome.

15-year-old Mehdi ran away from the IOF, who then chased him:

He was detained for 15 minutes before being released.

Mohammad al Arabi was at the scene and tried to intervene, but was beaten and injured in the face by the occupation as he tried to protect his brother.

‘Israel’, as an occupying power, has clearlegal obligations toward Palestinians with disabilities under international law, including the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. These obligations require the occupation to ensure protection and safety during military operations, access to essential services, and non‑discrimination for disabled Palestinians.

Indiscriminate attacks by the IOF have killed and injured disabled Palestinians who posed no security threat. Such attacks violateinternational humanitarian law obligations to protect civilians, especially those with limited mobility or communication barriers.
