Over the past few days, I took part in a number of antiwar events with the wonderful antiwar community of New York City. One event, pictured above, was a performance of a play by Jack Gilroy and zool Zulkowitz, performed by Michelle Mallardi and Emily Barkovic. The play is called Reap What You Sow, Don’t Lose Heart! and it’s put on by the Rising Together Theater Company.
The play depicts the interactions of a mother who is a member of the U.S. military and a daughter who’s stopped believing war propaganda. The play is intended to stimulate discussion and thought, and it does so powerfully. I was privileged to be asked to facilitate the post-performance discussion together with Rowan Acadia Dunlop. Below, we see zool and Rowan.
On Sunday, April 26, I took part in a rally and march against nuclear weapons. A large delegation from Japan, including a number of hibakusha, participated. A conference and a wide variety of activities are taking part this week at the United Nations at which the world’s governments plan to re-commit to blatantly violating the treaty on the nonproliferation of nuclear weapons, which many people would like them to uphold to the extent of eliminating nuclear weapons, and which virtually nobody even knows also requires eliminating non-nuclear weapons. Below, that’s me to Jeremy Corbin’s left.
We held a rally on the steps of the New York Public Library before marching to the United Nations.
We filled 42nd Street for a number of blocks.
Later, we took part in a conference at the Scandinavia House called “Tectonic Geopolitical Changes: Which Way to Peace & A Nuclear Weapon-Free World” put together by a large coalition of organizations, including World BEYOND War.
