With full enthusiasm and determination, the NDF-Laguna, together with the entire revolutionary forces in the province, welcomes the 53rd founding anniversary of the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) this April 24. Amid worsening economic and political crises, NDF-Laguna stands firm in the struggle for genuine freedom and democracy. This occasion marks the unwavering struggle of the masses against imperialism, feudalism, and bureaucrat capitalism, the parasites that oppress the people and are the roots of poverty in the country.
The situation in the Philippines is critical as US imperialism relentlessly pushes for war in the Asia Pacific. The Philippines, as a neo-colony of the United States, is being dragged to become an instrument and launching pad for aggressive wars and provocations against China, the leading imperialist rival of the US. The continuous presence of American troops in the region through Joint Military Exercises like Balikatan and the Visiting Forces Agreement is a sign of the country being directly pulled into serving as a pawn in war. The entry of these forces under the “pivot to Asia” directly places the Philippines and the region at risk of a proxy war against China. This is not for “defense” but for expanding US control and stirring conflict among Asian nations.
The successive wars launched by US imperialism in the Middle East, particularly against Iran—the third-largest oil reserve holder in the world, are the root of the current global oil and food crisis. This war is for the plunder of natural resources and the suppression of sovereign nations. The Filipino people are suffering its effects through relentless increases in oil prices, goods, and services.
The people of Laguna are not spared from this unparalleled crisis. In the province, many drivers and small operators have completely stopped operating as they can no longer cope with the skyrocketing fuel prices. While before they could earn around P1,000–P1,500 from a whole day’s drive, now only P300–P350 is left for their families. Meanwhile, widespread and systematic exploitation of workers by greedy capitalists continue through frozen meager and unlivable wages that cannot keep up with the relentless surge of prices.
At the same time, the eyes of large corporations gleam over Laguna due to the province’s rich natural resources. Although the people of Calauan and San Pablo triumphed in scrapping the ordinance allowing the development of an 84-hectare landfill by the South Luzon Waste Management Corporation in Mt. Kasilungan, this greedy corporation still persists in pushing their project. According to SLWMC, they will not recognize the Provincial Board’s decision, especially since they estimate they can earn around P8 Million in just one day. Hence, it’s no surprise that they insist on this project. Even though the people of Calauan and San Pablo have achieved an initial victory, it is only right to continue collective action to stop this looming project.
Amid all these, Marcos Jr. only responds with violence and deafening silence. While crises erupt left and right, the state led by the US-Marcos II regime is systematically repressing the resisting masses. One glaring example of this is the merciless killing of revolutionaries and five civilians in Toboso, Negros Occidental last April 19.
Marcos Jr. and his AFP minions may kill the bodies of revolutionaries, but they can never kill the aspiration of the Filipino people to break free from the chains of slavery and poverty. This crisis will only continue to breed new blood and generations of revolutionaries who will tread the path of people’s war. This is the law of history repeatedly proven correct by the people who have advanced and continue to advance the people’s democratic revolution. Because the masses know that the only answer to end poverty is to overthrow imperialism, feudalism, and bureaucrat capitalism.
It is more timely now than ever to re-echo the anti-imperialist protests and resistance of the Filipino people. The entire nation must unite to assert and fight for genuine national freedom and democracy. Reject and oppose the US war provocation schemes and the use of the Philippines as a launching pad for war against rival China.
To achieve this, NDF-Laguna must be strengthened by recruiting the greatest number into its underground organizations to serve as the backbone of the continuously expanding mass movement in both urban and rural areas of the province. All patriotic and nationalist must be mobilized in all forms of struggle. We must strengthen people’s protests to oust US military troops and bases from the country. Expose their effects on the lives, livelihoods of the people, and the environment. Mobilize the largest number of people and harness our broad united front for armed struggle.
Under the leadership of the Communist Party of the Philippines, the vanguard of the Philippine revolution, these struggles will be directed toward achieving genuine freedom, democracy, and peace based on justice. The current situation in the province of Laguna and the entire country is ripe for further uniting and mobilizing the people for revolution. With the correct leadership of the CPP, the strengthening and expansion of the NDF is certain!
Long live the NDFP!
Long live the people of Laguna!
Long live the Filipino people!
