“It’s like climate change on steroids.” Climate activists protested outside the Washington, D.C. corporate offices of Apple, Meta, Open AI and Microsoft, demanding a “moratorium” on hyperscale data centers. According to protestors, these data centers are gobbling up environmental resources and endangering the sustainability of human life. The march concluded at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, site of the 2026 World Data Center Conference.
