Mexico City. President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo emphasized that information will be requested from both the United States government and the Chihuahua state government regarding the presence of two U.S. security agents in field operations to determine if any laws were violated.

This, she emphasized, is because the regulations stipulate that the presence in Mexican territory of elements from the agencies of the northern neighbor must be regulated, comply with protocols and must be authorized by the Federation.

“The relationship is federal, not state. They need authorization from the Federation for this collaboration that takes place at the state level, as established by the Constitution.”

The President was questioned about whether she knew about the activities carried out by two agents from Washington, after their presence in the country became known due to an accident in which they lost their lives yesterday along with two members of the Chihuahua State Investigation Agency, when they were returning from an operation to dismantle drug laboratories.

“We weren’t aware of it; it was a decision made by the Chihuahua state government (under Governor Maru Campos). We are requesting more information from the Chihuahua government. Regardless of the situation, we regret this accident. They have the full solidarity and support of the Mexican government, and we are in contact with the U.S. Embassy. Secondly, we were unaware of any direct collaboration between Chihuahua and personnel from the U.S. Embassy in Mexico.”

The head of the Executive Branch insisted that “all the information” has been requested from both the state administration and the United States embassy, in order to review whether the law on the matter was violated by that agreement at the level of an entity of the Republic.

“It is important, not only, we are clear on this, we have stated it this way, that there is collaboration, there is coordination, but there are no joint operations on the ground. There is information that is provided from them to us and from us to them, intelligence, we collaborate within this framework. We also appreciate the support in this regard within the framework of our sovereignty, with the four principles that we have established regarding the territorial integrity of Mexico.”

The federal leader insisted that as soon as her government has the information, it will be made public.

“The embassy has to give us the information, and of course, we will provide as much information as possible, without affecting the safety of people and within the framework of security measures.”

She mentioned that she herself, if she has the opportunity, will demand answers this Monday from the US ambassador, Ronald Johnson, who will be attending the meeting this morning with the US trade representative.
