Twenty-four-year-old Jalen Carpenter was shot and killed by Illinois State Police April 15 after leaving his girlfriend’s house. In an interview with BT, his father Stanley Carpenter said he was “devastated” by Jalen’s murder, describing his son as “hardworking” and “a big teddy bear.” Stanley has repeatedly called his son’s killing an “assassination.” The Carpenter family and Chicago community members are demanding immediate release of body cam footage and that the officer be charged with murder. Jalen is survived by a two-year-old son.
