Former CIA agent and current Ambassador to Mexico Ronald Johnson said the Embassy deeply regretted the tragic loss.

Pedro Ramón Oseguera Cervantes, director of the Chihuahua State Investigation Agency (AEI), died along with three other people, including two members of the staff of the U.S. Embassy in Mexico, as a result of a car accident in the municipality of Morelos. The incident was mourned by Ronald Johnson, U.S. Ambassador to Mexico.

According to reports, Cervantes and the other deceased individuals were returning from an operation in which two drug labs were discovered and destroyed. The car they were traveling in reportedly lost control and plunged into a ravine.

Travelling with the director of the Chihuahua State Investigation Agency (AEI) were Genaro Méndez Montes, an AEI agent, and two instructor officers from the United States Embassy in Mexico, whose names have not been revealed.

Ambassador Johnson Regrets the Accident

Through social media, Ronald Johnson, the United States Ambassador to Mexico, lamented the incident that cost the lives of two members of the Embassy, ​​and acknowledged the work of all the people who died in the accident.

“We deeply regret the tragic loss of two U.S. Embassy staff members, the Director of the Chihuahua State Investigation Agency (AEI), and one of the agency’s agents in this accident. We recognize their dedication and tireless efforts in addressing one of the greatest challenges of our time,” Johnson said.

In his statement, the Ambassador also noted that this accident is a “reminder” of the dangers constantly faced by Mexican and American officials who dedicate their lives to fighting drug trafficking and protecting the population.

He also noted that the tragedy helps authorities strengthen their “determination to continue their mission and advance our shared commitment to security and justice, to protect our people.”

Chihuahua Prosecutor Also Commented on the Matter

For his part, César Jáuregui Moreno, Attorney General of the state of Chihuahua, also said he regretted the death of the two members of the State Investigation Agency and the two members of the US Embassy in Mexico.

“From here, our deepest condolences and prayers for the families of those who died in this tragic accident,” the Prosecutor commented during a press conference held this morning.

Jáuregui highlighted the career and service of the fallen officers, especially the director of the AEI, whose “life, dedication and commitment to the safety of the people of Chihuahua” he emphasized.
