Westminster is at the centre of a “second global empire”. At our Death in Westminster live event, Kojo Koram explained that the top three tax havens in the world are all British Overseas Territories: the Cayman Islands, the British Virgin Islands and Bermuda. Through this dark network, people can move vast sums of money without paying taxes or facing scrutiny. Politicians in Westminster say it’s “impossible” to intervene in former colonies because doing so would be “colonialist”. Kojo says the status quo is already an empire, with Westminster at its heart.
