Every day, President Claudia Sheinbaum gives a morning presidential press conference and Mexico Solidarity Media posts English language summaries, translated by Mexico Solidarity’s Pedro Gellert. Previous press conference summaries are available here.
7.2 million students receive support: stipends as an investment in the futurePresident Claudia Sheinbaum announced that more than 7.2 million elementary school students will receive economic support for purchasing school supplies and uniforms, a measure that helps strengthen family finances.
Record levels are being reached in the following programs: 8.2 million students in Rita Cetina, 4.1 million in Benito Juárez, 423,000 in Jóvenes Escribiendo el Futuro (Youth Writing the Future), and 56,000 in Gertrudis Bocanegra. Plans include an investment of 1.1 trillion pesos (US$63.49 billion) and 129.5 million beneficiaries by 2030. In addition, public education is being promoted with more schools, teachers, and better conditions.
Fuel: intervention to curb abusesSheinbaum noted that, without government intervention, gasoline would exceed 30 pesos (US$1.73) and diesel 32–33 pesos (US$1.85-1.90) per liter, given the international rise in oil prices above US$100 per barrel. The price cap remains at 24 pesos (US$1.39) for regular gasoline and 28 pesos (US$1.62) for diesel, with the goal of lowering them.
This entails support of nearly 5 billion pesos (US$290 million), offset by Pemex revenues, equivalent to around 2.5 billion pesos (US$140 million) weekly. The President warned of impacts on the basic food basket and announced meetings with gas station owners and the PACIC anti-inflation pact to prevent abuses and protect the population’s economy.
Mexico–Spain: Historical Memory and Foreign Policy with DignitySheinbaum highlighted King Felipe’s recognition of indigenous cultures as a step forward in an assessment of the Spanish colonization of Mexico. The President reaffirmed that, despite López Obrador’s call for an official apology, relations between the two countries were never severed. During Sheinbaum’s visit to Spain, a clear position will be taken: the conquest involved violence, imposition, and plunder, along with the assertion that Indigenous civilizations were advanced. The message will be self-determination, non-intervention, peace, and international recognition of Indigenous peoples.
Well-being Hubs: Investment with Territorial JusticeThe President announced that the Tlaxcala model will be replicated nationwide, promoting industry and manufacturing alongside well-being. It integrates infrastructure, housing, and services near workplaces; in Tlaxcala, urban development came first, then land was sold, and the state retains administrative control. The debt-free plan is already attracting businesses and fostering orderly growth with social justice.
