On March 28, U.S.-Israeli strikes targeted Iran University of Science and Technology, completely destroying its engineering college. The Department of Physics and Department of Cultural and Islamic Studies also sustained major damage. BT went to the site of the destruction a few days later and saw first responders and volunteers at work, cleaning up debris and handing out sweets and tea. University alumni were also present, whom we spoke to. The bombing of the university follows the U.S.-Israeli strike on the home of Saeed Shamaqdari, IUST’s Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering. Shamaqdari was killed, alongside his two children.
