In January 2025, Another Development Foundation (ADF), Sweden, became an affiliated partner of World BEYOND War (WBW).
Our first contact with WBW was established in early 2024, including meetings in New York in April 2024 and subsequent communication with Phill Gittins, Educational Director at WBW’s London office. Phill was also invited to speak at one of our events on October 24.
Later that same year, in November, Ingvar Rönnbäck, Founder of Another Development Foundation, met David Swanson, Executive Director of WBW, during his visit to Stockholm after receiving the Real Nobel Prize from the Lay Down Your Arms Foundation in Oslo, Norway.
Since then, ADF has been actively engaged in the WBW Europe Network and has participated in several activities organized by WBW, including trainings, conferences, and outreach initiatives.
We deeply value our connection to the WBW global network. We strongly believe that such relationships are essential in advancing the shared goal of ending all wars.

Our Work on Nonviolence Together with Partners
Driven by our commitment to peace, freedom from violence, human dignity, human well-being, and the survival of life on Earth—as well as our concern for non-human life and the environment—we have established an Annual Forum on Nonviolence. The forum is open to activists, movements, scholars, and the general public.
The forum was established following a consultative process with potential stakeholders.
We have organized this forum annually since 2020 and are currently planning the next event: Nonviolence 2026.
Each year, we bring together approximately 100 participants in Umeå, along with around 900 participants in online panel discussions. Our audience includes local participants from Umeå, national participants from across Sweden, and international contributors in the online program.
We organize the forum in close collaboration with partners, including:
- The Swedish Fellowship of Reconciliation
- The Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF)
- The Study Association Bilda
- Härnösand People’s High School
- Studiefrämjandet
- Västerbotten Centre for Human Rights
- Västerbotten Museum
- Umeå Sami Association (Såhkie)
- Umeå Sami Cultural Centre (Tráhppie)
- Centre for Sami Studies (Várdduo)
- Department of Political Science, Umeå University
Each annual event focuses on different themes—such as militarism, climate justice, human rights, autocratization, and fascism—while consistently aiming to deepen understanding of nonviolence and to mobilize and organize for action, resistance, and advocacy – locally, nationally, and internationally.
In addition to the annual forum, we provide opportunities for engagement throughout the year. These include conversations and public actions addressing issues such as solidarity with victims of war, genocide and sexualized violence, peacebuilding and demilitarization, climate justice, humane migration policies in Sweden, ecocide law, and sustainable journalism.
In all our activities, we collaborate with cultural practitioners to engage not only intellectually, but also emotionally, spiritually, and physically.
A Final Note
Our work takes place in a context where Sweden has become increasingly militarized and influenced by far-right political movements and parties.
Through our efforts, we create opportunities for activists, movements, scholars, and citizens to engage in shaping “Another Development”—promoting peace through peaceful means, freedom from violence, human rights, climate justice, and sustainable development.
We are deeply grateful for all our partnerships, and especially for our affiliation with World BEYOND War.
