    NATO is a defensive alliance. The US deciding to attack Iran has nothing to do with defense. It is an act of hostility.

    That being said, if China invades Taiwan, it would also be an act of hostility. Europe would most likely side against China for that, for the same reason they are currently not supporting the US for it. It’s why they also stand against Russia over their invasion of Ukraine.

    Europe would view the invasion of Taiwan in very much the same light as the invasion of Ukraine. The only difference between those two situations and what’s happening in Iran, is that the US is the hostile invader. That complicated things, a lot.
