Charlie Kirk and a rifle

Tyler Robinson is the man accused of murdering Charlie Kirk. Now, however, a court filing has stated that the bullet which struck Kirk cannot be matched to the rifle linked to Turner:

Charlie Kirk: no match

As we reported at the time, there were many questions around the Kirk shooting. Several were asked of the FBI itself.

Following the killing, the American right attempted to paint Kirk as a martyr who was similar to Martin Luther King Jr. This failed to take given Kirk’s actual politics:

charlie kirk opposed the civil rights act, called george floyd a scumbag, said he’d be worried abt black pilots & that he’d force his daughter to carry a pregnancy to term if she was raped.

he shouldn’t have been killed but he def was an extremist. https://t.co/0MMdI5UH3P

#CharlieKirk said Black people were better off in slavery and subjugation before the 1940’s.

“It was bad & it was evil but they committed less crimes”

It was also the case that an ageing Donald Trump struggled to remain focussed on Kirk’s martyrdom:

“My condolences on the loss of your friend Charlie Kirk. How are you holding up?” – Reporter

“I think very good. And by the way, you see all the trucks? They just started construction of the new ballroom for the White House.” – Donald Trump

Right wingers spent weeks on here policing whether you talked about Charlie Kirk correctly and a month later Trump is at an event with Kirk’s widow like “I’m better at dodging bullets” https://t.co/ToKglyRiEn

On the latest developments, NBC News reported the following:

In a court filing, Robinson’s attorneys said they were provided with a summary report from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, which they say indicates “that the ATF was unable to identify the bullet recovered at autopsy to the rifle allegedly tied” to their client.

Robinson’s attorneys said they have not been able to review the ATF case file associated with that summary report, nor have they been able to review the protocols related to the examination of the bullet fragment found during the autopsy. The court filing also said a secondary comparative bullet analysis by the FBI is underway, but not yet complete.

NBCadded:

Attorneys for the man accused of fatally shooting Charlie Kirk last September want to delay a court hearing for six months to review evidence relating to DNA found on the alleged murder weapon.

In other news, an officer who was linked to Tyler turning himself in has resigned:

And OFC the sheriff who “arranged” for Tyler to turn himself in, Nate Brooksby, resigned today.

Total coincidence I’m sure. https://t.co/7AVpyooaRB pic.twitter.com/LAKUPnHxEp

Questions

Many conspiracy theories arose after the Kirk shooting. In part, this happened because of how the US authorities handled the case. This was entirely predictable, because the FBI has become heavily politicised since Trump returned to power and put Kash Patel in charge of the bureau.

If it turns out the rifle doesn’t match the bullet, the questions about this case will only multiply.
