Oil storage tanks at Kharg Island, Iran’s main export terminal, through which most of the country’s oil passes before loading onto tankers. The Trump administration is reportedly weighing seizure of the island as part of a wider escalation of the U.S. war on Iran.

Reports now indicate that the Trump administration is weighing major escalation, including seizure of Kharg Island, raids on nuclear facilities and even a large-scale U.S. ground invasion.

They can grab those island easy enough. Then what? Iran probably has Kharg rigged to blow if it’s occupied for starters, as Saddam did in Kuwait in the 1st gulf war, which many of us presumed we would do to Iraq’s own oil fields in the 2nd gulf war but he for some reason did not. Then there are a few smaller ones on the Iranian side in the Straits.

Once they take them, they will be under fire from drones and missiles, which is probably the plan, so they can blow billions on interceptors to take out the cheap drones and missiles fired towards them. We could hold the islands, it wouldn’t change anything, other than hasten the US’ eventual maxing out of it’s borrowing and the resulting default.
