It’s… really weird watching this war happen.
The bases that are being evacuated are, as far as I’ve been able to find, basically all just information logistics hubs primarily there to coordinate with allied countries, so it makes sense they could relocate to wherever and still do their job. It even seems like they did that preemptively - the few US troops in the region (something like 40,000) had huge swathes of them scattered to europe and SEA. There’s been no efforts to defend anything except the few big air bases (al salem is the only one I know about that is for sure still working) because they’re basically all just empty office buildings at this point. Even the bases that served material logistics roles were evac’d, presumably because there are no material logistics needed in this fuckfuck clown show.
They really just pulled everything back out of range and are entirely relying on airstrikes, while letting allied bases facetank the iranian strikes. It’s so fucking bizzare, because there’s no endgame here: you can’t hold strategic facilities or claim ground with a bomber, you can’t force a surrender with them and you for sure can’t bomb the mountains into submission. You have to have troops to actually accomplish anything, even a war of extermination needs people physically there, and they just… noped out.
It seems like their plan really is to drag this out as a spectacle until they get bored of whatever it is they’re doing, and then fuck off. And they could do that at basically any point with no effort or risk, because they have nothing of value that’s actually in iran. The lack of commitment of any other US assets besides bombs is fucking baffling. There’s no reason for this war at all, but there’s especially no reason to be doing this war like this. It doesn’t do anything except blow people up, and even if that was the entire goal this is the worst possible way for them to be going about doing that.
It’s just so STUPID.
Same tactic used elsewhere, like Afghanistan and Iraq, amongst others.
Bomb all their infrastructure into dust. Then sure, fuck off and make some popcorn for the shitshow.
They’re left without clean water, sewage and waste accumulates everywhere (disease spreads), food scarcity (famine), no electricity, no Internet, no gas, no hvac, no hospitals (minor wounds become death sentences), etc.
Death becomes inevitable from multiple facets, Mr. Anderson. And not a single boot on the ground is needed.
I wouldn’t call this “stupid.” It’s a valid and well tested war strategy.
Except we had fuckloads of personnel in both countries, and as yet the US hasn’t been targeting critical iranian infrastructure in any broad way (Iran keeps threatening to retaliate if they do and hasn’t yet, so even if we ignore all the US-originates information which eould obviously lie it’s a pretty good indication that it hasn’t happened yet). All I can find are incidental strikes with piles of civilian casualties, nebulous claims about the destruction of military targets and the apparent broad destruction of oil infrastructure. If this was about capturing oil, why bomb it? If this was about extermination, why have we not systematically destroyed the water infrastructure? If famine or plague is the goal, why not burn crops or target hospitals? While all of that has happened some it’s not nearly enough for any of that to have been the goal.
That’s what I mean when I say this doesn’t make sense - it’s like the goal is literally just to waste as many bombs as possible, there’s no strategy they seem to be pursuing. I’m glad it’s either not an active campaign of extermination or the most obtuse one in history, but it’s almost worse that they’re doing all this horrifying bullshit with seemingly no reason at all. It’s just a war on a fucking whim, I guess?
Israel views Iran with nukes as an existential threat. Most would agree and accept Iran is waging proxy wars on Israel via Hamas and Hezbollah amongst others, like Houthis (to various degrees). So regardless of nukes, Israel has an axe to grind.
USA doesn’t want to see more nukes, regardless. Especially no new nuclear states, regardless of ally or enemy.
Both seem to desire and encourage regime change in Iran.
We’re only thirty days in or so. It’s important to play up negotiations before letting millions of civilians die from famine and disease. If you just go in and immediately destroy literally all their major infrastructure that’d likely receive more international backlash, as that’s some major war crimes… You gotta draw it out. Tit for tat that shit over a decade or 5.
I think the war on terror death toll is estimated around 4-5 million according to a study from Brown University(costs of war project). Most of those(around 80 percent) being civilians dying from famine and disease. About a million from direct attacks (bombs.) That’s ultimately what this is… Just another chapter in the endless “war on terror.”
