It seems like every day a new study finds tiny plastic particles called microplastics where they should not be: in our bodies and our food, water and air.

Interesting. My first thought was “duh, plastic gloves are going to contaminate the microplastic samples!” but that’s not what was going on. It’s the powder left on the gloves from manufacturing, which is not plastic, but happens to have similar readings to polyethylene when put through one of the main tests used to detect plastics.
The authors recommend that researchers testing for microplastics refrain from using gloves, or use special powder-free gloves if necessary.
