Laura Kuenssberg

The BBC’s Laura Kuenssberg was on a mission this morning to reinforce Israeli claims that Iran fired missiles at the US base in Diego Garcia and has weapons that could target the UK. She was so determined to complete this mission that she had pro-Israel government minister Steve Reed on her Sunday programme to talk about it.

Then, just for balance, she had pro-Israel war enthusiast Tory front-bencher James Cleverly on as well. But it didn’t quite go to plan.

Reed is a rabid enough supporter of Israel to condemn schools for allowing pro-Palestine protests. But even he couldn’t keep a straight face as Laura Kuenssberg ignored what the whole world knows. Reed denied that the UK has any intelligence to suggest Iran can or wants to attack the UK — directly contradicting Israel’s claim.

In fact, that statement — if the UK government was an honest one — is tantamount to concluding that Israel must have fired the Diego Garcia missiles as an attempt, as Reed described it, to “drag” the UK into its illegal war (even more than it already is). Though of course, since we don’t have an honest government, Reed still talked as if the missiles came from Iran.

Laura Kuenssberg — Israeli lies? Absurd!

You could see Laura Kuenssberg flounder — this wasn’t how it was supposed to go. So, as Reed continued to insist that there is no evidence to suggest an Iranian missile that can fly as far as London — which is 800km closer to Tehran than Diego Garcia is, which Israel claimed it reached — Kuenssberg descended into farce.

‘But the IDF is our ally!’. And then, the cherry on the icing on the shit sandwich she was trying to feed viewers:

Why would Israel say something that is not true?

Even arch-Zionist Reed couldn’t keep a straight face, laughing as he told Kuenssberg that she’d have to ask the Israelis that:

That would be the Israel that:

…etc etc. You get the picture.

When even Steve Reed can’t keep a straight face about an Israel issue, you know barrel bottoms have been scraped through.
