The 303rd Brigade commander Brig. Gen. Ted Dumusmog should look at a mirror before he harps again of deceitful lies and moral posturing, calling the revolutionary movement names which best describes the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP)’s own mercenary and blood-thirsty tradition: ‘purely murder’, ‘targeting vulnerable or soft targets.’
What they call ‘spate of killings’ devoid of ideology, in the view of the oppressed and toiling masses, is revolutionary justice versus traitors of the movement, active military agents and downright criminals, that sow fear and discord among peasant communities. Most are even combatants, as the New People’s Army (NPA) reports having retrieved 15 firearms in these operations. These individuals struck by the hands of revolutionary justice are far from innocent. In fact, they directly contribute to the intensified focused military operations in the hinterlands, often serving as guides during operations and identifying peasant mass leaders who are active in anti-feudal campaigns in the aims of silencing them.
Within the framework of Marcos Jr’s National Action Plan for Unity, Peace and Development (NAP-UPD) and US COIN-inspired ‘whole-of-nation’ approach, these military assets try to come off as civilians, when in fact they have very specific military objectives, making them legitimate targets in war. They try to coopt local farmer associations to dissuade them from militant forms of agrarian struggles and to appease their rightful demands.
The intel network of the AFP is a well-oiled machine, paid for by millions from tax payers’ money and is even a lucrative source of corruption for high military generals.
It is laughable how the AFP are now throwing these assets under the bus, as they are now shrugging them off as a “police matter” to be investigated and a “law enforcement problem.” After using them for the AFP’s tactical aims, they are now dust to them. This is also a warning to those who are thinking of being military assets: think twice, because they will turn their back on you once you are useless to them.
The hubris of AFP downplays the revolutionary justice meted on these assets as the desperate gasps of a dying movement. Senseless killings, they say, of the NPA remnants. But what they refuse to admit is the fact that the revolutionary movement led by the Party is on a wave of resurgence, gathering strength as it continues to capacitate its Red fighters and cadres with comprehensive political, ideological, and military trainings. More than meting justice, Red fighters continue to mount successful tactical offensives and punitive actions that serve as a series of blows to the comprador-landlord ruling class and their agents.
If there is any group needed of actual investigation, it is the AFP which contiues to violate international humanitarian law. They are the ones who harass and torture farmers, violently murder hors de combat fighters, strafing and bombing of communities, and other such heinous acts.
For as long as the roots of the armed struggle—imperialism, feudalism, and bureaucrat capitalism — remains, the people’s democratic revolution will continue to surge forward and unto greater heights. No matter the lies peddled by the reactionary government and its armed goons, the protracted people’s war led by the Party will always be a just war, bringing along the democratic interests of the workers, peasants, youth, and all other sectors.
