As the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran and the Israeli war on Lebanon rapidly escalate, Pakistan has launched deadly airstrikes inside Afghanistan, killing dozens of civilians in what it calls an “open war.” Obaidullah Baheer, Adjunct Lecturer at the American University of Afghanistan, joins to discuss what he calls “a war that has no endgame,” explaining how Pakistan’s attacks are destabilizing a country already struggling with 7.2 million returning refugees and a crippled economy. He also discusses the hypocrisy of the U.S. designating Afghanistan a “global sponsor of abductions” while ignoring its own history of rendition. “The fact that there are still prisoners in Guantanamo Bay, for the United States to create such a list is quite ironic, to say the least,” says Baheer. “We are people that want to be left alone, who want to build a better tomorrow,” Baheer says, but instead Afghanistan is caught between a military dictatorship tied to Trump and a region spiraling toward the “point of no return.” #breakthroughnews
