“We’re heading to World War Three.” Jeffrey Sachs, former special adviser to the UN secretary general, is raising the alarm about extremist Christian elements of the US military who embrace the idea of Armageddon. “We’re seeing a lot of people who believe that the worse it gets, the closer we are to a second coming of Jesus Christ,” he told journalist Piers Morgan. “That’s a motivating factor in the United States, I have to tell you.” He said the illegal war on Iran is “a kind of mass murder of civilians” in which the US and Israel are “carpet bombing” Tehran, and that “the consequences for the world will be utterly awful.”
