Spain has become the first NATO country to openly reject the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran. In a televised address on Wednesday, Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez drew parallels to the lead up to the 2003 invasion of Iraq, criticizing leaders “who use the smoke of war” to “fill the pockets of the few.” Sánchez’s remarks come as a rebuttal to Trump’s threats of cutting all trade with Spain, after Madrid denied permission to Washington to set up jointly operated bases on Spanish soil for strikes on Iran.
