Nikita Stapleton is a science teacher, volunteer, and activist from Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. (Local media say Portugal Cove at Phillips). They are committed to community, spent over a decade as a search and rescue volunteer and now volunteer with Planned Parenthood in addition to organizing with Palestine Action YYT and supporting various other local initiatives centred on intersectional liberation. As an educator, witnessing the systemic destruction of schools, universities and entire communities moved Nikita to become more involved, understanding that genocide is not only the attempt to destroy an entire people’s present, but also an attempt to erase their histories and attack their futures. “As Israel continues to escalate its campaign of genocide against Palestinians, not just in Gaza but also in the West Bank, we have a duty to escalate our efforts for collective action. Every person has a responsibility to oppose injustice and genocide but as Canadian citizens the complicity of our government has compounded that responsibility”.
