On Monday, Venezuela’s interim president Delcy Rodriguez hosted a meeting with victims of political violence in light of the new Amnesty Law. Western media portrays right-wing political violence as a fabrication of the Venezuelan government. But during the meeting, Inés Esparragoza states she’s still waiting for justice for her son, Orlando Figuera, who was burned alive in 2017 by a racist mob who accused him of being a Chavista. Last week, Venezuela granted full release to over 3,200 individuals under the recently passed Amnesty Law designed to ease political tensions in the country. Western media has criticized the Amnesty Law for excluding those convicted of terrorism-related charges.
