Twin Cities Tenants Union organizers are mobilizing across Minnesota to collect 10,000 signatures to commit to what would be the largest rent strike in state history — and the largest one in the U.S. in 100 years. Their demand: a statewide rent moratorium to protect working families devastated by Operation Metro Surge, along with $50 million in rent relief. ICE raids from the surge have devastated the local economy, with immigrant workers too afraid to leave their houses to shop or go to work, and mutual aid funds have been exhausted. Tenants have taken matters into their own hands as March 1 arrives with rent due and evictions mounting.
