Contrary to official military narrative, Negros Island’s leading Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) cadre and New People’s Army (NPA) commander Reynalde “Ka Amek” Erecre did not die in an armed ecounter. In fact, he was murdered in cold blood by elements of the 94th IB.
Further investigation by Romeo Nanta Command (RNC-NPA) bared that no armed encounter took place on January 30.
Around 2:00 a.m., while Ka Amek and his team were on the move, during a time when farmworkers commonly walk around for early-morning errands, they chanced upon an operating unit of 94th IB in Sitio Apitong, Barangay Biao, Binalbagan, Negros Occidental.
The said fascist army troops opened fire at them without confirming whether they were armed or civilians. This attack resulted in the death of Ka Joem Golez. The two others, including Ka Amek, survived but withdrew in separate directions. They were barely armed and not in a position to engage in active combat with a heavily armed rifle unit of 94th IB.
This incident was falsely reported in the news media as an “encounter”.
Through coercion and deception, 94th IB compelled some residents in the area into revealing information about the location where Ka Amek retreated.
While awaiting to be reunited with comrades, Ka Amek was found alive at 4:00 p.m. by trigger happy fascist soldiers and then summarily killed using disproportionate force. His body was riddled with bullets and his face dismembered beyond recognition.
There was no reason to kill Ka Amek given the condition that he was already cornered and could be handily arrested.
To cover up their war crime, the 94th IB concocted another fake encounter to justify their cowardly killing of undefended Party leader and beloved people’s army commander. Their thirst for blood and naked brutality is comparable only to their insatiable greed for Ka Amek’s bounty.
The fascists are fooling themselves in thinking that the demise of Ka Amek will finish the revolutionary movement in Negros. So long as the fundamental social problems of imperialism, feudalism and bureaucrat capitalism continue to persist, many Negrosanons will carry forward the revolutionary struggle to its completion and final victory.
